Minor Incidents
Following a fender bender, you may think calling an auto accident attorney is unnecessary. After all, you have no intention of seeking a huge settlement. You just want the insurance company to cover that dent in the bumper. While you may be able to get through this process without the aid of a lawyer, it never hurts to be cautious. If you already have a relationship with a lawyer who practices in this area, give him a call and see what he has to say. He'll be able to give you some pointers about how you should proceed for the best compensation. If you don't know a lawyer, make an appointment with a new one.
Call Before You Sign
Following your crash, the other party's insurance company is likely to get in contact with you. They will want information from you and they may want you to sign some type of agreement. Don't do any of this before you speak with an auto accident attorney. Though they will make it seem as though they are on your side, the insurance company's representatives are interested in one thing and one thing only: protecting their interests. That means reducing the amount of money they have to pay out. These companies don't make profits by blowing them every time one of their customers gets into a crash. If they can get you to accept a settlement below that which you deserve, they will.
Contact a Lawyer Directly
You don't need to go through a profit referral system to find an auto accident attorney. These systems are often run by chiropractors or other professionals who are more interested in making money off you than finding you a good lawyer. It's unnecessary. You don't have to go on a scavenger hunt to find a lawyer, after all. Look in the phone book and you'll have more selection than any 1-800 number can provide.
